FP-Opacity Pigments™ can be used very effectively in Matt Ink Products (e.g. Packaging Inks and Reverse laminated Inks) Typically, we achieve a replacement of ~10% wt/wt of the TiO2 in the original formulation and therefore recommend making at least three different levels of TiO2 replacement with the appropriate FP-Opacity Pigments™ product set either side of the expected replacement ratio.

Water Based Matt Ink

In typical water based matt Inks containing between 15 and 40% TiO2, the FP-Opacity Pigments™ product FP-460 has been shown to successfully replace up to 15% of the original TiO2 in the formulation, thus providing significant cost savings whilst maintaining important film integrity, physical and applications properties.

Solvent Based Matt Ink

Using FP-Opacity Pigments™ FP-470 a simple 1:1 wt/wt replacement of TiO2 is possible in solvent based matt Inks. Investigating a ladder from 5% to 15% resulted in a replacement ratio of around 8%.

Reduced Abrasivity

The different chemical nature of FP-Opacity Pigments™ products means that they have considerably lower abrasivity than the TiO2 that they are used to replace. Products containing FP-460 or FP-470 will thus be kinder on printer plate and doctor blade wear over time.

FDA Approval for use in Food Packaging

Both FP-460 and FP-470 are FDA approved for use in Food Packaging. Certificates of Conformity indicating which parts of FDA CFR Title 21 are met can be downloaded here. For further information please contact us directly.
